My neighbour used to be an agent, at a large film & theatre agency, and she tells me there's a colossal demand for a British superhero film. So I'm writing a treatment for one. This is going to be both hard, and ludicrous. I suppose this is where I find out if I actually have the ability to sell out...

"broken earth..." is going slowly. But, I hope, quite
well. In the interim, I've been writing a treatment for a Sherlock Holmes film
which, in all probability, will go nowhere. So, if you happen to be interested
in a weird treatment for a weird Sherlock Holmes film, you feel free to contact
me.
I'm also going to put up all the scripts I've written, so anyone who's looking
for a 10 minute-long, weird play (or, indeed, a longer weird one) will have
a few to pick from. If you want to put any of them on, god help you. Drop me
a line.

Well, as you might have read on the first page, the wonderful
Peggy Ramsay Foundation has given me some funding to write a new play. Score
one for Team Me. Let's hope this isn't a colossal misplacing of faith, shall
we? Provisionally, the play's called "broken earth & dead blue sky",
and is about a number of soldiers returning home from, or deserting during,
various wars through time. It should be quite absurd. Maybe I'll put some extracts
up when I've actually written them.
In case you're interested, I will be buying a book called "Stalingrad"
to research this. I imagine it will be harrowing. I'm prepared for that.
In other things to redefine the word "news", I'm waiting to hear from
the UK Film Council as to whether they might like to support some more development
of "Lifted", and from IWC Media to see if they'd like to give me a
half-hour slot on Channel 4 to make a short film. All of this is very unlikely;
I don't even know why I'm mentioning it. Off you go, now. Do some work.

It's looking like my play "heaven" (which has had a
reading at the Royal Court, directed by James Macdonald, about a million years
ago, and has been sitting on my shelf since then) might actually get a public
outing. We're looking to put it on at the Southwark Playhouse in October (ish)
but, since we're at the proposal stage, I won't get my hopes up or give you
any particular details right now. Because there are none.
The film I was writing, "Lifted", is now actually finished; well,
in draft form, anyway. A few nice people have read/are reading it, and one kind
person has even told me some thoughts on it. So, if you happen to be a film
producer who's stumbled across this site trying to find something more interesting,
drop me a line, and you can make us both famous if you like.
In the rest of the year, I'll be writing at least 2 new plays, redrafting "Fiji
Land" (shortlisted for the Amnesty International thingy; had a reading
at the Soho, dir. Bob Wolstenholme) and writing three short films. I'm nothing
if not ambitious with my targets.
As per usual, you can have a look at my writing
CV by clicking on the link on the left.
